SHELL - Online fuel card management

Shell offers a secure, scalable platform for small and large fleet operators to manage their fuel cards efficiently. The redesign initiative focused on reducing administrative overhead and driving greater adoption of advanced card management capabilities.

RESULT

The design resulted in a streamlined, intuitive fuel card management system that empowered users to confidently manage and monitor their fuel cards with ease. By reducing friction around key tasks and aligning the experience with real user priorities, we delivered a solution that significantly improved usability and control.

One of the most impactful changes, driven directly by user testing insights, was the introduction of a homepage overview. This new feature gave users instant access to critical data, including the number of active card requests and incident types, enabling quicker decision-making and greater transparency. The success of this feature led to enhancements in the underlying data structure, ensuring seamless integration into future platform releases.

Success metrics reflected strong outcomes: improved task completion times, elevated user satisfaction scores, and optimisations to the database that supported broader product scalability. Our work not only addressed existing pain points but laid the groundwork for sustained, data-informed product evolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As Senior UX Designer at Foolproof, I led the redesign of Shell’s online content and fuel card management platform, collaborating closely with two UX designers and a QA designer. This project required balancing Shell’s evolving brand system with the constraints of an enterprise technology stack—while keeping the user experience at the forefront.

We began by immersing ourselves in the existing platform and its limitations, aligning early on with Shell’s updated design system and technical requirements. This foundation enabled us to work quickly and confidently across a highly structured environment.

To validate our approach, we conducted remote user testing with existing Shell customers who had deep familiarity with the legacy experience. Their feedback provided actionable insights that shaped everything from navigation flow to data hierarchy, ultimately helping us deliver a solution that resonated with users and stakeholders alike.

By integrating real-world feedback with user-centered design practices, we delivered a reimagined platform that not only fulfilled Shell’s business and brand objectives but also improved clarity, control, and efficiency for their global customer base.
