AXIOM - OBSERVABILITY REIMAGINED
Axiom is a SaaS observability platform that helps engineering teams understand system health and respond to issues through structured, high-density data interfaces.
OVERVIEW
Axiom is a developer-focused observability platform designed to help engineering teams explore logs, monitor system behaviour, and investigate production incidents at scale.
When I joined as the founding product designer, the platform was functionally powerful but structurally fragmented. Core observability workflows existed across dashboards, alerts, and insights, yet navigation lacked consistency and users were often dropped into dense data environments without guidance on priority, context, or next actions.
I reframed the challenge from feature-level usability improvements to system-level clarity, defining a unified interaction model that helped engineers move confidently from signal detection to investigation and resolution.
Alongside redesigning the platform’s information architecture and navigation model, I established the product’s first scalable design system and partnered with the CTO and engineering leadership to shape experience direction across the platform’s early growth phase.
This work shifted Axiom from a collection of powerful but disconnected tools into a coherent decision environment for interpreting system behaviour.
STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS
Information architecture for large-scale observability workflows.
Decision-support UX for signal detection, alert interpretation, and investigation flows.
Navigation model redesign across dashboards, alerts, and insights.
Interaction hierarchy for high-density data environments.
Design system foundations aligned with engineering implementation.
Developer-first usability improvements for long-session technical workflows.
Reducing cognitive load in log exploration and anomaly investigation.
Experience consistency across early-stage product surfaces.
Activation and onboarding improvements for users migrating from competitor platforms.
Design governance for scalable delivery across engineering-led teams
APPROACH
Rather than optimising individual screens, I approached the redesign as a structural product challenge: creating a coherent decision environment across the observability lifecycle.
I began by mapping how engineers moved between alerts, dashboards, and exploratory queries, identifying fragmentation in navigation patterns and inconsistencies in how system health signals were interpreted across surfaces.
From this analysis, I defined a unified interaction model supporting predictable movement between detection, investigation, and resolution workflows. This established a clearer mental model for understanding system behaviour across the platform.
In parallel, I led the creation of Axiom’s first production-ready design system in Figma, directly aligned with engineering implementation. The system standardised interaction behaviours across dashboards and alert environments while enabling faster, more autonomous delivery by engineers working across distributed product areas.
Working closely with the CTO and engineering team, I ensured solutions balanced usability improvements with technical feasibility, allowing the experience architecture to evolve alongside the platform’s infrastructure during a critical growth phase.
User validation and continuous feedback loops ensured navigation and workflow decisions reflected real investigation behaviour rather than abstract interface assumptions.
